ADVentura Barbarrojas
Invasion
While the theme of boutique brand ADVentura has been nostalgic narratives of pioneering and discovery, telling the fictional tales of ADVentura and McKay, two 15th century explorers, with each cigar release, the company now sets sail on stormy seas taking a darker departure with this latest installment. It’s called Barbarroja’s Invasion. Described as a "world domination sort of way,” this blend welcomes overcast to a delectable chapter of the ever-unfolding ADVentura cigar story. While medio tiempo seemed to be a Nicaraguan thing, showing up in a number of new blends on the market is Dominican medio tiempo. This brings us to theme of Barbarroja’s Invasion – medio tiempo which adds much character to the blend. For those who may not know about medio tiempo, it is a priming of tobacco that is found above the ligero priming and is typically the highest priming. This means that the tobaccos are the strongest, most nutrient rich from that plant as they are getting the most exposure to the sun. Adding this specially sourced tobacco adds intensity and vibrancy to the blend for a more dynamic and flavor-forward smoke. Handmade at the Tabacalera William Ventura, Barbarroja's Invasion employs a toothy and oily Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper cloaking a potent mix of Dominican binder and filler leaves, including some of the above mentioned rare medio tiempo tobaccos, adding depth by way of the leaf's oily, potent profile. Lighting up with a near-full intensity, the bold, medium-bodied stick with a spicy, earthy and creamy flavor profile takes palates on a journey through rich notes of dark chocolate, cream and coffee evolving to include even more mouthwatering flavors of earth, peppered steak, and classic leather. This boutique cigar took over two years to develop according to the brand’s founders, and each puff demonstrates that it was well worth the time spent. If you're a fan of decadent and hearty cigars, Barbarroja's Invasion deserves a spot in your humidor. It is available in a three-size line up. Choose from a 6X54 Toro, 6X44 Corona and a 5X52 Robusto.
