Just part of the story, La Llorona recalls the mythical specter of a fierce, female figure linked to various haunting legends, storied with merciless and vile acts of vengeance but vary depending on the Latin American country. So popular, the Latin folklore has inspired many books and films. As the brand is known for its back story about a seafaring explorer and his journeys of discovering new cigars that are expressed through blends, The ADVentura La Llorona is a progression of the series offering a cigar that impresses with its impact and are dare we say, elegant yet bold like their namesake ghostly figure. Robust, yet medium to medium plus intensity, its “dark” flavor profile is strong and distinct with well-defined aromas for a rich, satisfying, and lively smoke. Handmade in the Dominican Republic, the cigars utilize tobacco aged 4 to 5 years (Dominican Medio Tiempo is also used in the filler) and see a tan Ecuadorian Habano as its wrapper. Once rolled, they are aged 4-5 months before being sold. Toothy and textured, its seams and veins are a bit pronounced. They are dressed in two bands made to look like one, and are both red, white, blue, gold and black boasting a pirate skull along with the line and company name. The aroma from the wrapper is that of earth and hay while the foot brings a light mix of cedar and earth. Emanating sweet cedar along with a subtle spiciness on the lips is the pre-light draw. Upon lighting, the cigar begins with toasted cedar and a slightly sharp black pepper tone. As it progresses, the black pepper subsides while toasted cedar and lightly zingy black pepper make an entrance. Key flavor notes also include freshly baked chocolate cookies, smokey bacon, and hints of leather. Carmel and coffee are present as well. An end of the day kind of cigar, it perfectly pairs with a spiced rum or smooth bourbon.
