Black Label Trading
Co. Orthodox
Let’s get one thing out of the way quickly: there is nothing conventional about Black Label Trading Co.’s newest release, Orthodox. Unorthodox might be more appropriate for a cigar bursting with flavors of star anise, dark cherry, and spice. The limited-edition run is going to be a humidor staple for those lucky enough to get their hands on one while supplies last. Brand founder James Brown said in a press release announcing the line that he called the cigar Orthodox to celebrate Black Label’s return to their roots. The red-hot boutique cigar brand, which has been around since 2013, has followed one smash hit with another. Be it the complex Paper Crane or the unbounded Lawless, Brown has kept competition on its heels since he broke through a little more than a decade ago. With Orthodox, the centerpiece of the smoking experience is the ability to highlight the best of Nicaraguan tobacco, namely its signature strength and intensity. The Orthodox is unapologetically full bodied, combining Nicaraguan filler tobacco with a San Andres Mexican wrapper and an Ecuadorian Habano binder. Having been unleashed at the 2024 PCA convention, the Orthodox may have a short lifespan at least in this initial release. Retailers were offered the chance to carry the specialty smoke on a first-come, first-serve basis. Formatted in three Vitolas, a Black Label Trading Co. Orthodox Toro (5.75 x 50), Black Label Trading Co. Orthodox Corona Gorda (5 x 46) and a Black Label Trading Co. Orthodox Short Robusto (4.5 x 52), only 900 boxes in quantities of 20 apiece of the line’s three sizes are available to the public. It’s a reflection of Brown’s stringent quality standards that go into each and every cigar. While Nicaragua is the epicenter of the cigar smoking universe as of right now, only a select few leaves are deemed quality enough to make it into a Black Label Trading Co. blend. Like Paper Crane, for example, this results in highly celebrated, but extremely fast selling small-batch releases. Aficionados know that Cigars.com is the place for not only procuring the best cigars but discovering the people and places that will come to define your next great smoking experience. Brown, a former travel agent who lived for years in Central America and now operates a revered factory in Nicaragua, got into the business with the intention of showing the rest of the world what it’s like to smoke like a native of Nicaragua. For years, supposed Nicaraguan blends failed to capture the true essence of the country’s flavors. Now, thanks to cigars like Orthodox, we can travel there with the flick of a lighter. Shop Cigars.com today for one of these 20-count boxes before it’s too late.
