Black Works Studio
Paper Crane
The newest Limited-Edition release produced at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Estelí, Nicaragua, rounding out the brand’s Black Works Studio portfolio, Black Label Trading Co. unveiled Paper Crane Limited Editon at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show. Received with much anticipation, the blend is exceptionally exquisite encapsulating the art of fine craftmanship and celebrating artistic expression.Owner James Brown noted that he has always been fascinated by and admired the unique Desflorado wrapper leaf. Now, why all the fuss and commotion on this particular leaf? Also known as “topping”, this method deflowers a plant thus forcing all the plant’s nutrients and sugars to be concentrated to its leaves deepening the shade of leaf’s color. Not only, a noticeable color change, upon harvesting, processing and then rolling, the result is a stronger, sweeter tobacco. Now, with the majority of Black Works' cigar profile falling under the more fuller-bodied range, decidedly the brand pulled back the reigns the Black Works Paper Crane series. Placing emphasis on the blend rather than its strength, the utilization of the Desflorado wrapper leaf was essential to executing Brown’s vision for this limited-edition smoke. A perfect vehicle, the Ecuadorian Connecticut Desflorado wrapper is teeming with tobacco from Nicaragua that is encased inside an Ecuadorian Habano binder. The result is a medium-full bodied smoke with enriching notes of citrus and spice for eager palates. Smokers can expect to journey through lightly spiced notes of earth, wood and walnuts enhanced by sweeter notes of bread dough and raw honey. Brown himself classifies the blend as “…a beautiful balance of light citrus notes on the palette, followed by delicate layers of spice on the retrohale and finish.”Brown’s attention to detail is unmatched, guaranteeing the quality exceeds the expectations of even the most discerning smokers around the world. Honing in on the factory’s stellar reputation for excellence, each cigar is limited in quantity with only 900 boxes produced. This is a testament to its dedication to true cigar mastery and painstaking time and effort they take with each cigar. With a presentation of two formats available for purchase, smokers can choose from a 5 X 46 Corona Gorda or a 6 X 48 Toro, both of which are boxed pressed in finish with quantities of 20 are housed in a black box dripping in artistic expression, boasting an overall graffiti and street art aura. Upon its entry into the cigar industry in 2015, Black Works Studio (BLK WKS) has been top of mind for cigar enthusiasts to experience newness and unorthodox intense Nicaraguan flavor profiles. Equally high in caliber, the Paper Crane Limited Editon is an eventful flight of elite construction and complex notes one won’t soon forget.
