Crowned Heads
Coroneta Habano
The Coroneta is one cigar line up with two different signature blends. It is the first of its kind seeing the brand source from two different countries and two different factories to create distinctly different profiles. Crowned Heads’ Jon Huber tapped NACSA in Nicaragua to create the Habano line and the famed Ernesto Perez-Carrillo to use his master skills to manufacture the Maduro line at Casa Carrillo in the Dominican Republic. Spotlighted here is the second of two divergent smoking experiences in the Coroneta line, the Coroneta Habano joining the Coroneta Maduro. Though the second to be released in the collection, it is much older than the Maduro and said to have been "production ready" two years before its actual release which began shipping around mid-June 2024. The Coroneta Habano cigar establishes itself with a warm profile showcasing a nearly seamless Ecuador Habano wrapper over expertly aged Nicaraguan binder and long-filler from Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa Nicaragua, the countries top growing regions. The result is medium body delivering balanced, zesty, and an all-around "classic Habano" style cigar. Delivered are tasting notes of toasted woods, cedar, earth and cabinet spice starting off with the essence of gingersnap, bright coffee bean, and sourdough bread. “The concept of simultaneously introducing one brand in two expressions from two different houses is something entirely first-time for us.” said Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release when the cigars were announced in March. “The Habano version from NACSA was actually final and production ready back in the Spring of 2022, but we decided to hold it back. Ultimately, we felt so strongly about the Coroneta brand that we tapped the ‘Godfather of Boutique Cigars,’ aka Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, to partner with us on developing the maduro version. I think the Coroneta brand achieves what we excel at, which is, seamlessly blending tradition and history with premium modernity.” The “Coroneta” name comes from coronet, which is a simple crown and each of the sizes are named for headdresses worn by lower-ranking members of nobility throughout the 16th century. Both lines share the same range formatted into three Vitolas. They are Earl measuring 5x 52, Duke 5.5x54 and a Coroneta Habano Baron measuring 6x56. The cigar bands showcase the exact same strawberry leaf iconography that was featured on the various crowns of British heraldry. Each format is offered in counts of 20 and housed in equally regal wooden boxes executing that royal aura Crown Heads was aiming for. The Crowned Heads' Coroneta cigar is a unique one boasting some of the most brilliant minds and top cigar factories in the industry used for its creation. It successfully marries cigar tradition with contemporary, innovative practices offering rich, enticing flavor while remaining steadfast to the highest standards of quality.
