Crowned Heads
Coroneta Maduro
When producing a line of sister cigars, Crowned Heads did something unimaginable. Two different blends. Two different wrappers. Two completely different factories. The result? The Crowned Heads Coroneta Maduro and Coroneta Habano. The Habano is the slighter side of the coin, produced at Nicaragua American Cigars S.A. and containing the Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Condega, Estelí and Jalapa, Nicaragua. Unwrapping the Maduro? That’s when the experience gets delightfully dark. A Mexican San Andres wrapper cloaks Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed binder and fillers sourced from the Dominican Republic, Pennsylvania and Nicaragua. This blend was overseen by the masterful E.P. Carrillo and the Casa Carrillo factory. There, a record 16 cigars were produced that eventually received top placement on the prestigious Cigar Aficionado Top 25 list. Four generations of the Carrillo family have now informed their timeless process, which is steeped in old world tradition but continues to reach for the modern palate. Jon Huber, the brand founder, said of the idea in a press release: “The concept of simultaneously introducing one brand in two expressions from two different houses is something entirely first-time for us. The Habano version from NACSA was actually final and production ready back in the Spring of 2022, but we decided to hold it back. Ultimately, we felt so strongly about the Coroneta brand that we tapped the ‘Godfather of Boutique Cigars,’ aka Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, to partner with us on developing the maduro version. I think the Coroneta brand achieves what we excel at, which is, seamlessly blending tradition and history with premium modernity.” After first light, smokers are hit with waves of peppery spice, walnut, chocolate and a touch of fruit. The strawberry leaf is an inspiration for this stick and is etched on its band. This makes the cigar a perfect pair with a stout beer, anything from your collection of cognacs and an espresso based coffee drink. Imagine a morning latte and a cigar melding together better than you could ever imagine.
