Gurkha Treinta
The Gurkha Treinta was made to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary. Quite peculiar, since Gurkha cigars have actually been around since the 1800s. For the Treinta, the occasion is technically and more specifically Kaizad Hansotia taking the reins of Gurkha and reviving the company into one of the most successful brands in the industry. Indeed, Gurkha are the geniuses behind the Year of the Dragon release in 2024, which was one of the most innovative and influential cigar lines to come out in more than a decade. With multiple, color-coded boxes based on which legendary blend master worked on the cigar, it became a collector’s item that sold out almost instantaneously. The Treinta, in commemorating such an important moment for the company, is equally incredible. Limited and even more rare, the offer is quite lavish garnering attention from the masses from its spicy nature to its makers, packaging and beyond. Sporting a lineup of Ecuadorian Habano rosado wrapper, Nicaraguan corojo 99 binder and a filler combination from the Estelí and Jalapa regions of Nicaragua, the company boasts a sweet and complex flavor profile along with a medium-bodied strength. The tobacco was sourced from the famed AGANORSA Leaf farmlands, some of the richest and most fertile growing space in all of Nicaragua and was the first time the esteemed cigar brand started working with AGANORSA. Pepperiness, creaminess, nuttiness and a woodsy profile dominate this luxurious cigar which toes the line between an ideal nightcap and a standalone feature smoke that is complex enough to warrant a long and contemplative session with an empty notepad and a glass of bourbon or rye. Outside of the premium taste, this cigar is dressed in its most formal attire. A flawless dark brown wrapper gives way to a large format white and gold band with intricate design work indicating that this isn’t just a normal stick in the humidor. The box, black with a gold nameplate just under the lid, feels just as much like a collector’s item as it does a place to hold your best smokes. Gurkha is always associated with some of the best packaging in the business, which may ultimately be one of Hansotia’s biggest contributions over the years. Outside of the Year of the Dragon, the Ghost, Heritage and Colorado are also ornate; some of the most visually appealing cigars in any storefront or humidor. Hansotia was one of the first cigarmakers to break the $10 per stick barrier in the very early 1990s. His gamble? If it’s this good, people are going to pay for it. The same can be said for the Treinta, which is available at Cigars.com now. Shop the collection and taste a cigar that has come to define what we mean by smoking luxury.
