Plasencia
Cosecha 151
The number in Plasencia’s new Cosecha 151 line represents the 151st consecutive tobacco harvest performed by the Plasencia family, dating all the way back to 1865. The tobacco used for this cigar specifically was from a bountiful 2016 harvest and is the third time the Plasencia line has commemorated both their agricultural history and highlighted a specific harvest with a cigar release. If this isn’t indicative of the deep expertise and quality of a Plasencia cigar, then just wait until you dive into the details behind this full-bodied smoke. A true Honduran puro, the 151 carries a flavor profile of roasted coffee, pecans, dark chocolate and prunes. The grand finale are mature cinnamon and oak flavors, giving the cigar distinctive sweet and savory waves that stay true to the bold power of the cigar. Available in three sizes, these dark, chestnut brown smokes have a flawless look and feel to them, especially after looking at them boxed in a sleek and modern package design. In choosing to celebrate Honduran tobacco in particular, Plasencia is putting itself on the same pedestal as some of the great winemakers and coffee blendmasters, many of whom focus on a particular region and strive, through the blending process, to highlight the geography and its unique flavors. Honduras does not get the same level of appreciation as Nicaragua given that some of the other Honduran tobacco releases are not as refined and have a notable roughness to them. The 151, right down to the intricate process that Plasencia undergoes to craft the fertilizer in the fields used to grow its tobacco and its ultimate goal of using regenerative agriculture processes to push the farm fully organic over the next decade, is anything but. This cigar is great for experienced smokers who have been following industry trends and are ready to pivot away from a market that has been Nicaraguan dominant for so long. Like great wines and coffees around the world, there are cigar profiles that remain untapped to the modern palate and the 151 stands above many as a true representation of Honduras, its people and their process. Presented in a three-vitola line up, the sizes Plasencia Cosecha 151 La Musica (5 x 50), Plasencia Cosecha 151 San Diego (5 3/4 x 46) and Plasencia Cosecha 151 La Tradicion (5 7/8 x 54) are well dressed much like the rest of the cigars in the brand’s portfolio. The savory sticks feature three black and gold bands, with two that are more traditionally placed near its head, and a third that is near its foot. Resting in an equally as elegant and regal black and gold box are 10 of these fine smokes. Shop Cigars.com and grab yourself a 10-count box. Incredibly priced, these smokes are bound to move fast so don’t wait. Like a fine wine, some vintages are bound to disappear and based on early reviews of the 151, it seems like one of the best harvests yet.
