San Cristobal Cigars
(6 Reviews)
Created by the Levin family of Ashton and the Garcia family of My Father, San Cristobal Cigars are some of the best Nicaraguan-made cigars on the market, and I have all five of the top-rated San Cristobal blends in my humidor. While first released to the market in 2007, the San Cristobal brand is far older with its roots stretching back over 100 years.
San Cristobal was a Cuban-made brand from the early 1900s named after the city of San Cristobal. San Cristobal is one of the largest cities in the Pinar del Rio province, home to some of the best cigar tobaccos in the world grown in the Vuelta Abajo region. Although it met its demise following Castro’s Revolution, the San Cristobal brand was secured by the Levin family in the ‘80s waiting for opportunity.
In the mid-2000s, that opportunity would appear in the form of Jose “Pepin” Garcia and his flourishing brand My Father Cigars. The Levin family saw great potential in the Cuban-born cigar maker and his Cuban style of cigar blending, and he turned out to be a fantastic partner for the San Cristobal brand. To this day, all San Cristobal cigars are made at My Father Cigars S.A. with top-notch construction.
The first release in 2007 was the San Cristobal, and it immediately captured the attention of aficionados across the country. Blended with Nicaraguan long filler and binder tobaccos grown on Garcia family farms, the finishing touch is a top-quality and alluringly dark Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper. Full-bodied flavors of peppery spice, espresso, dark chocolate, earth, roasted nuts, and cedar.
When I am in the mood for something on the smoother side, I spark up a San Cristobal Elegancia. These elegant treats feature a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a core of Nicaraguan long filler and binder leaf. I get a smooth and approachable medium-bodied medley of sweet cream, nuts, baking spices, cedar, cocoa, and leather. An excellent any-time treat!
San Cristobal Revelation is also medium bodied with a bouquet of roasted nuts, cinnamon, pepper, cedar, chocolate, and earth, revealed by its gorgeous Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. For a closer look, check out our San Cristobal Revelation cigar review here!
The San Cristobal Ovation and its dusky San Andres wrapper delivers a hearty medium-full bodied smoke with notes of peppery spice, dark chocolate, charred wood, earth, dried fruit, and tobacco sweetness that are so good I might as well applaud the experience.
Last but certainly not least is the San Cristobal Quintessence, and they provide the quintessential Nicaraguan smoke. Dressed in a top-shelf Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, I get a rich and satisfying medium-full bodied tapestry of chocolate, espresso, peppery spice, molasses, cedar, and earth that I always find myself coming back to.
