Altezas Reales 1871 Cabinet Series Corona Gorda cigars are the brainchild of Rafael Cifuentes III. He is the great-grandson of Ramon Cifuentes, who owned and operated the Partagas cigar factory in Cuba during the late 19th Century. Each cigar is rolled in the old style entubar method using Nicaraguan Viso and Corojo fillers bunched inside an Ecuadorian binder and a Habano Ecuadorian Claro wrapper. This was a complex Cuban-style smoke with flavors of damp earth, leather, sweet spice, nuts, and caramel that had me savoring every puff. The entubar method entails rolling the filler leaf into a straw or tube shape, creating greater air flow, and it greatly enhanced the burn and draw of this remarkably flavorful medium bodied smoke.
