CAO Pilon Anejo cigars are the long awaited follow-up to the original highly popular CAO Pilon cigars that were first launched in 2015 . This second release once again uses the Pilon method, a technique that has been around since the 19th century to cure tobacco. Most premium cigars utilize the standard fermentation process of drying the tobacco in a traditional pilon which is a carefully layered stack of tobacco leaves that helps ferment the tobacco to maximize the flavor and color of the leaves. Anejo goes one step further by aging the tobaccos an additional two years so that its flavors go beyond what was conceived as their maximum potential. The blend for Anejo which roughly translates to "aged pile," uses a blend composed of aged Nicaraguan binder and long fillers, covered by a beautiful ,reddish hue Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. After lighting a CAO Pilon Anejo Robusto (my favorite size )I was greeted by a medium-to -full bodied smoke, that issued rich, complex flavors of spice, leather, roasted nuts, and hints of dark chocolate. According to CAO this is a limited edition offering, and only 5,000 boxes of 20 were made so grab a box ASAP so that you don’t miss out on of the richest and most flavorful cigars released in 2023.
